Surprises
Everybody has Talent
I blew up a plastic glove for one of the granddaughters. Immediately she named the glove “Bixby” and created a habitat for Bixby. Bixby lived in upstairs guest bedroom or quite a while. She surprised me.
On one trip I gave my son and his family white plates and some paint. They all sat down and started to work. (I was surprised!) I expected grumbling. The next few pictures are the fruit of their labor that day.
This has played out with all my kids and grandkids. They’ve all sat down at different times and created something unique out of nothing. I don’t have pictures of all of them unfortunately. There are also possibly scores of painted rocks spread from Greensboro, NC to North Georgia.
These things I know to be true:
We all have a gift or gifts.
Don’t discourage people from trying things. (I’ve heard parents and sometimes teachers rain on a kid’s parade just because their creation wasn’t perfect). I’ve also heard parents actually say to their child, “Oh, you’re good but you can’t make any money doing that as if money were the end goal.” Yeah, I know we all have to make a living but don’t let your whole life be about money.
Lastly, a verse from the Bible I heard this week, “Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath; but righteousness delivers from death.”
People are sensitive and one rotten word about something might keep them from doing something they really love. It happens more often than you think.
I encourage you to try something different this week. If nothing else, you’ll have fun.
